The one another vanguards (2)
Introduction
We continue in our studies of the one another texts. We have dealt with one another vices, the one another vivifiers and the one another virtues. Currently we are considering the one another vanguards,. And the first vanguard we considered was prayer.
In this study, we will pick up the second vanguard and it is “Fellowship with one another" The apostle's aim in writing 1John was to make his readers partakes of the same fellowship which he and his fellow- apostles had with the Father and with his son Jesus Christ. Such fellowship, he seemed to be arguing, was the basis upon we can have fellowship with our fellow brothers and sisters.
We will study about our fellowship with one another, in the context of 1John 1:7.
Questions
1. What is fellowship? (from Greek koinos, meaning” common")
2. Who are the parties involved in fellowship according to 1John 1:7?
3. What is the nature of our fellowship with the Father? Is the statement “if we walk in the light as He is in the light (v7a) significant in answering this question? If so, how so? Can we learn anything from Enoch? See Gen 5:22and also Eph 5:8-14.
4. What is the nature of our fellowship with one another? State at least 4 ways in which this fellowship is expressed. The following scriptures are suggestive in this regard:
a) Acts 2:42; Heb 10:25
b) Acts 2:44-46
c) 1Cor 10:16-17
d) 1Cor 12:25, 26
e) Phil 4:15
5. What is the relationship between our fellowship with the Father and our fellowship with one another? Is it a necessary relationship? See 1John 1:7
6. What can you personally and practically do to encourage brothers and sisters who are not having fellowship with God and with the church?
7. What according to 1John 1:7 is both the meritorious cause as well as the fruit of our fellowship with God and one another. Deduce your answer from the statement “The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin" (1John 1:7b).
